Adapting

Adapting requires an organisation to be capable of responding to and leveraging off, current and future market positioning using concise planning techniques, business models, product and service design and implementation, project management, people selection and training.

Current and future market positioning is derived from the sensing of data. An organisation must be responsive in the forever-changing operating environment and capable of leveraging off all relevant opportunities that eventuate amidst change.

We believe that adaptability is now key to business success and organisations need to undertake quarterly business planning, forecasting and reporting. A five year plan in our view is now too optimistic. A balance is struck between short-term knee-jerking decision making and long-term strategic governance.

Planning reviews need to be more frequent and contents of plans need to be more succinct. Organisations now seek to avoid cumbersome plans and ask for more with less. Attention time spans are under stress and people require plans to focus on strategic and tactical point summaries, models, graphs and performance measurement.

Traditional marketing and business models are still employed, however refinements now lead to tailored and combined variations to themes. Most of the models used by Sway evolve from solid theory and practice, but are modified to suit the specific requirements of clients. This is a classic example of adaptability at work. The correct design and selection of third party channels, used to sell, service, distribute etc, is important. Adaptable organisations need adaptable partners and allies.

Product and service development is best achieved under the umbrella of research, concept testing and market pilot measurement. While time to market is often key, we stress that a poorly executed bad idea does not benefit from a quick market entry. Sway specialises in concept testing and market pilot measurement.

Effective and efficient project management within changing operating environments is a basic prerequisite for all initiatives. As is the assignment of responsibilities and roles to individuals tasked with undertaking projects. Sway can work with clients' employees and get the best results out of the most appropriate people, or can provide contractors to muscle-build the team.

Any knowledge and capability gaps are identified and training is undertaken to build adaptability. Any organisational design defects are identified and new adaptable structures recommended.
